As far as zero'ing the 4 500GB drives, I bet it takes about 4 days to do that. But you can use the TS during that time. You can format the drives and get it back up to working within just a few minutes. The format should only take 10-15 minutes and then you can get it back up and running. The RAID-5 zero process will take place in the background while you are working so you can still start using it immediately. If you are unable to get past formatting, there is something else wrong.
